Reference and Research Assistance
Librarians assist in the design and development of research strategies and in identifying and locating appropriate materials for research topics. They also provide instruction in the use of both electronic and print databases and resources. Librarians are available for individual assistance by appointment or during the Library's Reference Hours. Library Information Literacy and Instruction
The Hannon Library provides instruction and assistance in using the Hannon Library and library resources and databases through the Library Instruction and Guides web site. The introductory page includes a basic guide to research. There are also links to Class pages and Self-paced Instruction for the Colloquium and Writing students.
Instructors may schedule library instruction for their classes by contacting Dale Vidmar at 541-552-6842 or by sending e-mail to vidmar@sou.edu. Please plan to schedule instruction as far in advance as possible.

- Subject List or Title List access is available from any computer within the Hannon Library, any computer connected to the campus network, and any computer at the Medford Center. For access to selected databases from off campus see the directions in the next paragraph.
- Connecting to Databases from Off-Campus - To access Library Databases from off-campus locations, click the link to the database from any Hannon Library Web page. If you are off-campus, you will be prompted for your Campus Network Login name and password.

Borrowing Library Materials
- Southern Oregon University Students
- Southern Oregon University students enrolled in Distance Education classes at any location outside the Rogue Valley may borrow items owned by the Hannon Library by completing the Article or Book Request Form. SOU students enrolled in Medford or Grants Pass classes may choose to pick up books at the Rogue Community College Riverside Center Library--132 South Riverside, Medford--or Rogue Community College Library in Grants Pass. You must specify your pick-up location when you request materials by typing your request in the "Additional Comments" box.
- Southern Oregon University VTEL students living beyond the Rogue Valley may request delivery of library materials by choosing the option from the Article or Book Request Form or by contacting Dale Vidmar, Distance Education Librarian.
- For books not held by the Hannon Library but available in other Summit Orbis Cascade libraries, SOU and other Summit Orbis Casade institution enrolled students may make direct loan requests within Summit to other Summit Orbis Cascade Libraries. Follow the instructions in Summit.
- All Summit items must be picked up and returned at the Hannon Library unless you request the following:
- Request that items are sent to another Summit Orbis Cascade Libraries.
- For SOU students enrolled in Medford or Grants Pass, you can have Summit requests sent to either the Rogue Community College Riverside Center Library--132 South Riverside, Medford--or Rogue Community College Library in Grants Pass.
- Send an email to vidmar@sou.edu to have the Library provide this service for your Summit requests.
- Note: Summit materials sent to Medford or Grants Pass must be returned in time to be sent to the Hannon Library in Ashland by the due date, so please return items 2 days prior to the listed due date to avoid overdue charges.
- Rogue Community College Students and Other Non-SOU Students:
- Rogue Community College and other non-Summit Orbis Cascade affililiated institutions of higher learning for which Southern Oregon University has cooperative lending agreements may electronically request circulating materials owned by the Hannon Library at Rogue Community College Library, Grants Pass; Riverside Center Library, Medford; and Mary Phipps Center, Medford. These items may be picked up and returned at the Rogue Community College Riverside Center Library in Medford or Rogue Community College Library in Grants Pass.
- For material not available from the Hannon Library, students of Rogue
Community College and other affiliated institutions must initiate their
requests for borrowing through their own libraries. The Hannon Library
cooperates with other universities and colleges in the sharing of library
materials through library-to-library initiated requests.
