Link to an Article
Here are the steps for creating a stable URL to one of the Library’s online journal articles:
- Go to the Library’s homepage: http://hanlib.sou.edu/.
- Go the appropriate database under “Find Articles.” (If you don’t know the appropriate database, see the second set of directions below.)
- Find your article.
- Click on the “Find at SOU” or “Check at SOU” link (If we have access, it will list the database that it’s in). (If you’re in Ebsco, and there’s a direct link to full-text without a “Find at SOU” button, then see the third set of directions below.)
- Click on “More Options.”
- Click on the “Go” for “Save citation information.”
- Copy the provided URL.
- Paste it where needed.
- If the URL is too long, go to http://www.tiny.cc/, paste it in the provided box, and click on “Tiny it!”
- The “tiny” version of your URL should be on your clipboard, and read to paste where needed.
If you don’t know which database the article was in:
- Go to the Library’s homepage: http://hanlib.sou.edu/.
- Under “Find Articles,” select the “Journals by Title” tab.
- Enter the journal title (not the article title).
- Select the journal if it’s listed (if it’s not, we don’t have it).
- The databases that have it full-text will be listed. From here, you can click in to the database to search for your particular article. (Note: if you enter the citation information in the boxes provided and click “go,” it will take you directly to the article and bypass the URL that you need.)
If you’re in Ebsco and there’s a direct link to full-text and now link to “Find at SOU”:
- Go into the record for the article and look for the “Persistent link to this record”
- Copy and paste the provided URL where needed.
- (Why not always do it this way? You certainly can, but the other way is a little better since it can provide alternate access to articles if an article is removed from Ebsco for some reason. )
