Requesting Overview

Eligible borrowers may place a 'request to borrow' on items owned by SOU, by Summit member libraries, or by by hundreds of other library collections through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) resource sharing services.

Request from SOU

Physical Items (print or media)

Available to everyone with Hannon Library borrowing eligiblity.

Requests for local items are submitted by logging into the Hannon Library Search and searching under the 'Hannon Library scope'.

Use the Request SOU Copy link to place a request (or hold) for physical general circulating items. Requests are are pulled daily and made ready for you to pick up at either the Hannon Library, or Rogue Community College library circulation desks.

We strive for a 24 hour or less turn-around time to process your item. Excludes weekends.

Holdshelf period for books: 5 days; for media: 3 days. Items not picked up by the end of the holdshelf period will be returned to the stacks.

Electronic PDF Items (book chapter or article)

Need just a chapter or article from a physical book or journal?

Use the Request a chapter PDF link and complete the form to take advantage or our Scan & Delver service. PDF items are delivered electronically via email.

Available to current SOU students, faculty, and staff only.

Limitations and restrictions apply. Copyright guidelines apply. Requests exceeding 20% of an entire work cannot be fulfilled.

Request from Summit

Available for SOU faculty, students, and staff.

If the physical item you need is not available at Hannon Library, search the Summit Catalog for access to collections from 39 regional libraries in the Pacific Northwest.

Electronic PDFs are not eligible for Summit requesting, but can be done through Interlibrary Loan.

Physical Items (Long Loan or Short Loan)

Requests for Summit items are submitted by logging into the Hannon Library Search and searching under the 'Hannon + Summit scope'.

Use the Request Summit Copy (2-5 days) link to place a request to borrow a physical Summit item. Requests generally arrive within 2-5 days and can be picked up & returned at either the Hannon Library, or Rogue Community College library circulation desks.

Holdshelf period for books: 5 days; for media: 3 days. Items not picked up by the end of the holdshelf period will be returned to the owning library.

Long Loan period (most books): 6 weeks. No renewals.

Short Loan period (all media, some books, and special formats): 6 days. No renewals.

Request from Interlibrary Loan

Available for SOU faculty, students, and staff.

The ILL request system called Tipasa, or simply- your ILL Account, is a last resort for finding items that are not available at Hannon Library or from a Summit library. ILL items can come from anywhere in the world.

Requests for ILL items are submitted by logging into the Hannon Library Search and searching under the 'Hannon + Summit + Articles scope'.

Physical and Electronic PDF Items

Use the Request through Interlibrary Loan (if not available through Summit) link to place a request for a physical loan or an electronic PDF item. Arrival time varies depending on where in the world the item is coming from. ILL items can only be picked up and returned at the Hannon Library circulation desk.

Holdshelf period for books: 5 days; for media: 3 days. Items not picked up by the end of the holdshelf period will be returned to the owning library.

Long Loan period (most books): 6 weeks. No renewals.

Short Loan period (all media, some books, and special formats): 12 days. No renewals.

Electronic PDF items are delivered to your ILL Account, or via email.
